Helping your child with Maths
Mathematical Health Warning!
These methods may seem very different from the methods of calculation taught when you were at school. However, in order not to confuse the children we would ask you to support your child's learning of these new methods and refrain from teaching your child methods of calculation not detailed in the following documents.
If there is anything you would like to discuss in more detail please do not hesitate to contact the Maths Leader, Mr Grange.
Below is the School’s Calculations Policy, separated into the four operations.
Helping your child at home with Maths
Here are targets, grouped by year group, that your child will be working on in each year group at school and that are easily supported at home.
Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception)
Talk about familiar numbers with your child e.g. their age, your house number, the date of their birthday etc. This will encourage them to become interested in numbers.
Practise counting objects (this could be whilst doing other activities such as cooking e.g. counting out the number of grapes, counting the number of steps taken, counting the number of beads threaded etc).
