Our Programme

A word from one of our successful teachers...

I have just completed my ITT with Exceed SCITT as part of the Leeds hub and would highly recommend it.  The combination of up-to-date research-based teaching strategies delivered as part of the dedicated training days, as well as the practical school-based training I have received has left me feeling confident and well equipped to start my first teaching job in September.
There are scaffolds in place to ensure you are successful when implementing the theory into practice in the classroom with the support of expert class-based mentors and lead mentors.  The immersive nature of the school-based training means that you experience every element of being a teacher from planning to parents’ evenings and organising school trips as well as working as part of a team with other teachers in the year group/school.  I have been able to truly understand the role of a teacher and what is required of me on a day-to-day basis and how school life really works, making it much less daunting when starting with my own class in September.

Training with Us

When you join our programme, your year begins at the start of the academic year. You will spend the year learning about primary school education throughout the academic year. This allows you to build up a complete picture of the role and responsibilities of a teacher. Across the year, you will have placements in two schools (Home and Host). The Home placement is where you will spend the majority of your year and the Host will allow you to experience an alternate (contrasting) school. This will allow you to develop your knowledge across different settings and in different key stages, according to the course you are on. Alongside the days you spend in the classroom, you will have dedicated training days each week. Through a carefully structured programme and with the guidance of highly-skilled tutors, you will be encouraged to reflect on your training and use and embed the newly developed skills in your classroom practice straight away.

You will work closely with an experienced Class Based Mentor in each of your placements, who will guide you through your school-based learning. These mentors are in school and are best placed to offer you the support and guidance you need to develop and grow as a teacher. You will also have other people to support you in your training year: a Lead Mentor who will visit you and complete key review points throughout the year and the Partnership Lead who will have regular progress meetings with you.
