Our Vision for ICT at Westerton
At Westerton Primary School our aim is to provide pupils with a safe and secure learning environment – encouraging all pupils to develop positive learning attitudes. The creation of an up to date and flexible learning environment with high quality resources that can be accessed in and out of school will provide a personalised experience for our pupils and thereby improve learning outcomes.
By establishing a culture of continuous improvement in ICT skills we can support all staff to develop our school's high quality teaching and learning, improve administration and management and provide accurate information to user groups.
We see ICT as a key part of our everyday practices in running the school. This will involve every member of the school community. Effective ICT will enable us to communicate in a secure and reliable way to staff, parents, other schools, the local authority and children’s services. We intend to provide support to parents so that they can play a full part in helping pupils to extend their learning and play a full part in engaging with the school in consultation over school improvement.
We want pupils to:
Take greater control over their own learning and to develop skills in becoming active and independent learners, being able to track their own achievements and set their own goals
Abilities to communicate, work together and solve problems
Enthusiasm to try out and use new technologies
We want teachers to:
Access a wide range of multimedia and digital resources and to use ICT in a wide range of learning spaces in the school and with variety of different group sizes
Create, use and adapt a range of multimedia and digital teaching resources that are exciting and inclusive
Support work planning and monitoring, for groups and individuals of varying abilities. This will include the setting and marking of pupils’ work electronically
We want ICT management to:
Be secure, integrated and effective in recording and analysing pupil information and progress in order to plan ahead for learning, including that of pupils with special educational needs
Create and support efficient administrative and financial systems moving towards electronic filing and cashless financial transactions within the school
Support communication with parents, schools and children’s services about pupil attendance, behaviour and attainment
Be accessible to all key groups who need to use it – including school governors.
In formulating this vision we are consulting with staff (teaching and non-teaching), parents, pupils, governors, the local authority and local voluntary and community groups through our extended schools cluster.
