Autumn Term

IN MATHS I WILL BE CONCENTRATING ON:

Counting to 100 and back in ones, twos, fives and tens.

Ordering numbers by size.

Continuing sequences of numbers.

Addition of numbers - putting the largest number first and knowing addition can be done in any order. Using number bonds for 10 to aid addition of larger numbers.

Subtracting numbers and subtracting 10 from a number.

Understanding the value of of each digit in a 2 digit and 3 digit number.

Recognising coins up to £2 and working out totals.

Naming, sorting and describing common 2D and 3D shapes.

Measuring length in metres and centimetres

Reading time to the hour and half past on the analogue and the digital clock.

IN ENGLISH I WILL BE CONCENTRATING ON:

Reading a range of stories and answer simple questions about them.

Read and recite favourite poems and discuss rhyme and alliteration.

To write a story on common experiences using time phrases to move the story along.

To learn common words and those including patterns oo, ar, oy.ow.

To punctuate sentences correctly.

IN SCIENCE I WILL BE LEARNING ABOUT:

Electricity - safety aspects and building simple circuits.

Counting on or back in tens from any number to 100.

Addition of 3 small numbers - putting largest first and/or finding a pair that make 10.

Understand division as grouping or sharing.

Find totals of money and give change.

Use and begin to read the vocabulary related to mass and time.

Understand multiplication as repeated additions or an array 

IN ENGLISH I WILL BE CONCENTRATING ON:

To read traditional stories and poems from a range of cultures.

Answer questions and discuss predictable and patterned language within the stories and poems.

To write stories using story settings from reading and use structures from poems as a basis for writing.

To learn common words and those including patterns.

Rounding numbers less than 100 to the nearest 10.

Using number facts and place value to add/ subtract.

Reading a scale to the nearest division.

Solving worded problems using multiplication and division.

Knowing all coins and giving change.

Reading time to half and a quarter of an hour on an analogue and 12 hour digital clock.

Solving problems involving measures.

IN LITERACY I WILL BE CONCENTRATING ON:

Experiencing stories by significant child authors.

Writing substantial stories using knowledge of story elements.

Using a contents page and index to find my way around a non-fiction text.

Spelling words with common suffixes eg -ful and -ly.
