Pupil Premium and Early Years Pupil Premium
The school has been in receipt of government funding specified as “Pupil Premium” since its introduction in April 2011. The Pupil Premium is paid to the local authority and was originally allocated to children from low-income families who were known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) in both mainstream and non-mainstream settings and children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months. This has now been extended to include pupils who have been eligible for FSMs at any point in the last 6 years.
The school also receives Early Years Pupil Premium for Nursery aged children whose parents meet the following criteria:
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided they are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on, which is paid for 4 weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit
- they are currently being looked after by a local authority in England or Wales
- they have left care in England or Wales through:
- an adoption
- a special guardianship order
- a child arrangement order
The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.
Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. However as a school we will be held accountable for how we have used the additional funding. Measures will be included in the performance tables that will capture the achievement of those deprived pupils covered by the Pupil Premium and from September 2012 we have been required to publish online information about how we have used the Premium. To meet this requirement the following information has been produced which sets out the amount of Premium we received for the 2011-12, 2012-2013, 2013-2014, 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 years and how this has been used. There are also details of how this year's Pupil Premium is being spent.
