Attachment Disorder and Resilience

 

Recently, teaching staff and learning support assistants received training from two Educational Psychologists about attachment disorder and how this may impact learning. The session was very interesting and informative. A copy of the presentation is included below:

There are a number of children at Westerton for whom "hidden disabilities" affect their day to day life at school.  Please click here for more information on Adverse Childhood Experiences.  These include:

  • domestic violence
  • parental abandonment through separation or divorce
  • a parent with a mental health condition
  • being the victim of abuse (physical, sexual and/or emotional)
  • being the victim of neglect (physical and emotional)
  • a member of the household being in prison
  • growing up in a household in which there are adults experiencing alcohol and drug use problems.
